7 June 2022 Cardiff downtown and Bayfront

The second day of Cardiff, our mission to be proper tourists and check out the main attractions (museum, castle, . After Cardiff in a nutshell mission, the plan is to drive down to the Bayfront for dinner. I have even scouted the carpark where we can park while enjoying the overrated Wagamama dinner.

Today is one of those own-time-own target kind of tourist day. We hit the street and had breakfast at the Cardiff Market. Triple yucks for the coffee. But the market has a market vibe to it and it was good we tried something different from earlier days.

We purchased a regular ticket to the castle and spent a good 2 hours on our feet. We walked the rampart, the bomb shelters that ran along under the same rampart, checked out the Roman walls (not spectacular the way it was presented) and the fort. Pretty good work out for the knees and legs.

Back to the main thoroughfare, we had one of the lousiest lunch at Pillar Restaurant. It was a Marche canteen type of place. Most folks had leftovers.

We proceeded to Cardiff National Museum. Entrance is free. Exhibits range from natural history to history art. I caught a couple of Picasso, Monet, Pisarro and even Robin. It was a delightful surprise.

After tea in the museum, we dragged ourselves back for a much needed rest. We have been on our feet for a good 6 hours. A siesta is much needed.

At 6pm, we set off to the bayfront. It was an easy straightforward drive south of the city. We parked at Mermaid Quayside carpark, a clean, automated carpark with number recognition.

Quayside was nice. We had a sweeping view of the sea. Evening light was just nice so we had lots of photo opportunities.

Dinner was at Zizi. We chose it for the familiarity as well as a nice view of the quayside. Zizi has a gluten free system to ensure that from order to service, the gf chain was without error. It was a delight to have a service that ensures as little mishap as possible for allergy sufferers.

We got back to The Beverly by 8.30pm. It was a smooth ride. The city was quiet, probably a huge number in the cricket stadium just in front of the hotel. We were so thankful that there was a car park lot for us when we returned.
